The skilled migrant route is one way to help New Zealand meet its employment needs. Applicants are selected based on the value they can add to New Zealand’s economy and workforce. This is the category under which most immigrants to New Zealand qualify.
The route of skilled migrants has been divided into three different categories, NL .:
- Work at the residence
- Work residence
Everyone has their own unique situation when you can apply for this itinerary.
The permanent residence category is for immigrants who immediately qualify for full permanent resident status in New Zealand. Applicants who apply in this category are generally granted residency based on the strength of their qualifications or work experience, but it may also be granted based on an approved job offer.
An advantage of obtaining permanent residence before landing in New Zealand is that the new resident can then immediately start working in any job, which facilitates the initial job search and subsequent installation. The applicant’s immediate family can also be included in this application so that they can also reside in the skilled migrant application process. However, there are certain factors that determine which immediate family members can be included in the application. Applicants must also be under the age of 55 when applying for this route.
From work to residence
Residence work may be available to those who are not immediately eligible for full permanent residence, but who have the capacity and/or skills to successfully integrate and contribute to the New Zealand economy. A work-residence permit is essentially a work permit which, after two years, can be converted into a permanent residence.
An applicant can obtain a work permit to reside if:
1) They have applied for and are eligible for full permanent residence, but the New Zealand Immigration Service has reservations about the ability of applicants to adapt and successfully integrate into New Zealand. They then issue the applicant a work permit to reside to enable them to prove that they can successfully settle.
Or, a potential immigrant can also apply for a work permit to residence immediately in these categories if they do not qualify in the Full Residence category:
2) Long-term skills shortage list – an applicant who has a valid job offer from a New Zealand employer and that skill is listed on the long-term skills shortage list may be able to request a work permit to the residence. Applicants must be under the age of 53 to apply in this category.
It is important to note that certain professions can only be practiced in New Zealand if the person has obtained registration for the appropriate profession. The New Zealand Immigration Service requires applicants who apply in these skill categories to register and / or obtain provisional registration before being granted a permit in the skilled migrant category.
3) Talent (certified employer) – Many employers in New Zealand have been allowed to seek and employ foreign staff. An appropriate candidate who receives a job offer from one of these employers can then apply in the Home Work category. Certain conditions must be fulfilled before being able to apply in this category, for example, the conditions of the minimum wage must be fulfilled and the proposed position must meet certain criteria of competence.
4) Talent (arts, culture, and sports) – People who have internationally recognized talents and abilities in the arts, culture or sports, and who have the ability to enhance New Zealand’s reputation Internationally, may also be able to apply as part of the work at Residence Category. Applicants must be sponsored by a nationally recognized New Zealand organization to be eligible.
